These drawings were initiated in June 2018 while I was in residence at PLAYA, a residency program for artists and scientists in Summer Lake, Oregon.

Responding to the repeated cycles of tectonic shift and volcanic activity that built up the Oregon landscape, the drawings embrace stratification and accumulation. Rocks stack in cairns and totems, becoming markers of a destination, human activity, or a point in time.

For me, these ink drawings are sensual and tactile, indulgent and unguarded. They are made with a love for ink and paper and an exploration of how they relate to each other. They are an exercise of fearlessness, an attempt to make and accept each layer with grace.
